Original Christmas Card #14: And Heav’n and Nature Sing… a Horrible, Horrible Song.

Like the “Rudolph the Middle-Aged Reindeer” drawing from Monday, this doodle was drawn by Mr. Mark Montgomery of Springfield, MO. I sent him the idea, simply saying “I want a cartoon where Heaven and nature sing – like in ‘Joy to the World’ – but they’re singing the worst song of all time: Smash Mouth’s...

Original Christmas Card #13: Chainsaw Santa Claus

When I created this card in 2008, it officially became my most talked-about holiday visual.  The most common comment was, “What does ‘FRAKKA!’ mean?” I’m pretty sure “FRAKKA!” is simply the sound of the chainsaw cutting through Santa’s bones. Aren’t you glad you asked? And do you? Do you hear what I hear?

Original Christmas Card #11: Rudolph, the Slightly-Less Red-Nosed, Middle-Aged Reindeer

Last week I sent an email to my old Springfield, MO friend Mark Montgomery and gave him an idea for a Christmas card. He proceeded to illustrate it.  I captioned it.  The result is below. See Mark’s work at http://www.markamontgomery.com/. Have yourself a merry, decrepit Christmas! 🙂

Have Yourself a Mopey, Mopey Christmas (Free MP3 Single)

Here is a Christmas single from yours truly… Side A: Winter, I Wouldn’t Know – A re-recording of a song I wrote in 1999. I love this song even though it reminds me of college heartbreak and romantic weirdness. That was my specialty for years. My wife rescued me from a life of Cupidic chaos...

Original Christmas Card #8: The Microscopic Drummer Boy

This is the first time this week I have felt healthy enough to create something. Mostly, I have felt utterly crummy. My vocal chords have been caked with phlegm much as mountains are caked with snow. The resolution of this card may or may not be what I want, but I am no techno-wizard. I...

Original Christmas Card #6: Santa Claus is Coming to Town (Sort of).

Once again, dark comedy prevails. Medium: Whiteout pen on black cardstock. I have a cold.  Noticed my throat was starting to get sore last night, and then came the drainage.  The wife has been sick for a week now, and I finally picked up her sickness. “In sickness and in health…” We promised to be...

Original Christmas Card #5: In a Parallel Dimension on Dec. 25th, 0000…

I dedicate this one to 10-year-old Emily Johnson, who has a seemingly incurable case of Bieber Fever. Emily, if you want to get well, take two Radiohead pills and call me in the morning.  But I suspect you would prefer to succumb to the Bieber Fever. 🙂
